Free to Fly Circus
Free to Fly Circus is a community-led program using movement and circus arts as tools for liberation, joy, and self-expression. We center low-income and Black youth, creating spaces where every child can move freely, be fully seen, and tell their own story.
Social Circus uses circus arts as a medium for social justice and social outreach, especially among underserved youth. Circus provides a fun and non-competitive outlet to move your body as well as a creative outlet and has been shown to improve confidence, agility, and coordination and provide a sense of community. In this approach, the primary goal is not to learn the circus arts, but rather to assist with participants’ personal and social development by nurturing their self-esteem and trust in others, as well as by helping them to acquire social skills, become active citizens, express their creativity, and realize their potential.
What is Social Circus?
Our Mission &
Philosophy
Our mission is to use circus and movement as pathways to liberation, confidence, and self-esteem for young people who are too often overlooked or underserved. We believe every child deserves access to creative spaces where their bodies, stories, and identities are honored. We center marginalized youth—including Black, Latinx, low-income, and those without access to formal arts training—because these are the communities most often denied opportunities for creative and embodied expression

Our teaching philosophy is rooted in trauma-informed, consent-centered practice. We prioritize safety, creativity, and authentic movement over rigid technique.
This work is deeply personal to us. Many of us grew up without access to safe or expressive outlets. As collective we are committed to building the kind of supportive, community-centered spaces we needed when we were young, a place where all kids can feel capable, connected, and free to be themselves.

We offer a range of ways for youth and adults to experience circus, build community, and explore movement in a supportive environment.
